Description

Located in the beautiful coastal town of Cooee Bay, Wreck Point Scenic Lookout is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves stunning panoramic views.

This lookout offers 360-degree views of the Capricorn Coast and Keppel Bay, all just a short drive away from Yeppoon town centre.

The scenic lookout has an intriguing story behind it. In October 1848, Captain Roach of the cutter Will-o’-the-Wisp discovered the waterlogged Selina, a 62-ton transport schooner. The Selina had been dismasted and washed ashore near Wreck Point. The ship had departed from the Pine River north of Brisbane on 31 July for Sydney, carrying a crew and a cargo of cedar logs. When she failed to arrive at Sydney, the fate of the Selina became a maritime mystery. It wasn't until 15 months later that the vessel was found.

In addition to the breathtaking views, Wreck Point Scenic Lookout offers a meandering 1.2 metres wide nature trail. Along the trail, you will find sandstone steps leading to a viewing platform situated just above the rocky point drop-off. One of the central features of this trail is the 'shipwreck' artwork, which tells the story of the Selina. An interpretive panel is also positioned along the walking trail, detailing the unfortunate tale of the shipwreck that happened at this location.

Wreck Point Scenic Lookout is open throughout the year. The perfect time to visit depends on your preference. The peak season is from April to October, during which you can expect to find the area bustling with visitors. The shoulder season, from November to March, also affords favourable weather
