Description
York Bushland Gardens is a stunning travel destination in Western Australia that showcases water-wise flora native to the Wheatbelt and town of York.
Founded in 2004, this garden is open to the public for enjoyment. The park was previously a clay pit used for brick-making and later served as a disposal area for a hotel destroyed during the Meckering earthquake in the 1960s.
Visitors to York Bushland Gardens can explore an impressive collection of wildflowers, wandoo trees, acacia bushes, and low shrubs. The park is home to a diverse range of orchids, including the Clubbed Spider Orchid, Jug Orchid, Dark Banded Greenhood Orchid, Candied Curly Locks Orchid, Scented Sun Orchid, Shy Sun Orchid, and Queen Orchid. Capturing photos of these wildflowers and sharing them on social media with #experienceyork is encouraged.
The best time to visit York Bushland Gardens is mid-spring when the Scented Sun Orchid blooms. This orchid is commonly found alongside the Shy Sun Orchid and the Queen Orchid along the Darling Scarp east of Perth.
To reach York Bushland Gardens, visitors can fly to Perth Airport, which is the closest airport to York. From there, renting a car and driving approximately 97 km east will bring them to York. Alternatively, visitors can take a train from Perth to Midland and then a bus to York. Once in York, they can visit the York Visitors Centre for more information about York Bushland Gardens and other attractions in the area.
