Sydney, New South Wales, is home to the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, a popular public aquarium located on the eastern side of Darling Harbour. The aquarium houses over 13,000 animals from more than 700 species in six million liters of water and showcases 14 themed zones, including Jurassic Seas, Discovery Rockpool, Shark Walk, and the world's largest Great Barrier Reef display.
Some of the key exhibits at the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium include Day and Night on the Reef, featuring the largest variety of sharks and rays in the world, along with Australia's famous marine animals like the dugong and tropical reef fish. Dugong Island is home to a dugong, while Shark Valley offers an immersive experience to learn about various shark species. The Penguin Expedition zone features a colony of penguins, allowing visitors an up-close encounter with these delightful creatures. Sydney Harbour displays the diverse marine life found in the harbor, and the South Coast Shipwreck exhibit features marine life from shipwrecks off the south coast of Australia.
The aquarium, a full institutional member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), opened in 1988 and is considered one of Sydney's premier tourist attractions, attracting over 55% of its visitors annually.
