The Gladstone Region in Queensland boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene, highlighted by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum (GRAGM). Established in 1985, this community cultural initiative is funded by the Gladstone Regional Council and is housed in the Heritage Listed old Gladstone Town Hall. The museum features a purpose-built extension that is connected to the historic building by a glass bridge.
Dedicated to promoting art, culture, and heritage for the communities of the Gladstone Region and Central Queensland, the GRAGM consists of four exhibition spaces: the Town Hall Gallery, Front Gallery, Museum Room, and O'Connell Space. These spaces host rotating exhibitions of art and history, with new displays introduced every 6 to 8 weeks to provide visitors with fresh experiences.
During a visit to the museum, guests can explore the exhibition spaces on the ground level and admire the dramatic aluminum and stainless steel installation on the façade, created by local artist Margaret Worthington. Inspired by the harbor and shipping charts of Port Curtis, this artwork enhances the unique aesthetic of the facility. The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum offers a dynamic cultural experience that seamlessly blends art, history, and heritage to both engage and educate visitors about the Gladstone Region's rich cultural tapestry.
