Western River tourist attractions

Western River Cove, located on the northern coast of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, is a stunning beach destination with two beautiful beaches. The main beach is a 160-meter long, north-facing sand beach backed by dunes, with a small river flowing on the eastern side. The beach offers a car park and picnic area, and camping facilities are available for overnight stays on a first-come, first-served basis.

Western River Cove is a great spot for various activities such as picnicking, fishing, snorkeling, spearfishing, and bushwalking. The clear water in the bay is well-protected, making it the best place for snorkeling on the island. The cove is also known for wildlife sightings, including koalas, kangaroos, sea lions, and seals. The best time to visit is during the summer months (December to February), although the spot can be enjoyed year-round due to the mild and temperate climate conditions on Kangaroo Island.

To reach Western River Cove, you can take a 30-minute flight from Adelaide Airport or drive for 1.5 hours from Adelaide to Cape Jervis and catch a 45-minute vehicle and passenger ferry to the island. Hiring a car or joining a tour is the best way to explore the beautiful Kangaroo Island.
