The RAAF Townsville Aviation Heritage Centre, formerly known as the RAAF Townsville Museum, is a must-visit attraction in Townsville, Queensland. Established in 1983, the museum's primary goal was to provide the general public with a platform to view military photographic displays and memorabilia. Over the years, the museum has received high commendations from the North Queensland Tourism Awards, including wins in the Heritage and Cultural category in 2001 and 2003. The museum has an extensive collection of exhibits, including uniforms, insignia, medical supplies, training materials, and weaponry. These exhibits offer visitors a glimpse into the conflicts in which many local residents were involved.
The museum is also linked to significant historical events, such as the 100th anniversary of powered flight by the Wright brothers and the 100th anniversary of Townsville being declared a city, both celebrated in 2003. In 2005, the museum became incorporated as the North Queensland Military Aviation Museum Inc. Today, it continues to be a popular destination for aviation enthusiasts and those interested in military history.
