Balllarat Town botanical gardens

Established in 1858, the heritage-listed gardens cover 40 hectares and are divided into four distinct zones. The central part of the gardens features a 'gardenesque' style, with open parkland on either side known as the North and South Gardens. A conservatory, named after Robert Clark who bequeathed two million dollars for its construction, was officially opened in 1995. The gardens are home to an extensive array of flowering plants, exotic trees, and floral displays. A collection of 9014 plants and 2264 unique taxa can be found throughout the gardens. Some of the key features of the gardens include an Annual Garden Bed, Asian Garden, Australia Garden, Azalea Garden, Cactus and Succulent Garden, Camellia Garden, Rose Garden, and Sensory Garden.

A hallmark event on Ballarat's events calendar, the Ballarat Begonia Festival, has been a local tradition for the past sixty years. The gardens are a popular and invaluable heritage and recreational location for residents and visitors alike, offering beautiful spots for picnics, walks, and exploration.
