Ceramic Arts Queensland (CAQ) is a not-for-profit organization established in Brisbane in 1968. The organization is committed to nurturing a cohesive ceramic art community in Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Their mission focuses on advancing, honoring, and inspiring ceramic arts across all sectors of society. CAQ offers a range of activities such as workshops, exhibitions, residencies, grants, and other ceramic events, with a primary focus on Queensland and Northern New South Wales, while also encompassing national and international events.
The Museum of Brisbane is currently presenting the exhibition "Clay: Collected Ceramics," showcasing contemporary ceramics and their innovative creators. The exhibit highlights works by ten prominent makers, including Carl McConnell, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Milton Moon, Lyndal Moor, and Kevin Grealy. Additionally, newly commissioned and acquired pieces by modern artisans such as Nicolette Johnson, Jane du Rand, Kenji Uranishi, and Steph Woods are featured. The exhibition also includes an interactive installation by Artist in Residence Jody Rallah.
The QAGOMA blog, part of the Queensland Art Gallery Gallery of Modern Art, showcases a curated selection of significant Australian ceramic pieces from the 1960s to 1980. This collection features works by six esteemed ceramic artists, including Ivan Englund, Shigeo Shiga, and Robert Forster, who have made notable contributions to the Australian ceramic arts scene. Visitors can explore a portion of QAGOMA’s ceramic collection in Gallery 3 at the Queensland Art Gallery.
