East Kimberley islands

The East Kimberley region of Western Australia is home to a stunning collection of over 2,500 islands, known as the Islands of the Kimberley. These islands stretch from the Western Australia–Northern Territory border in the east to just north of the North-West Kimberley and are scattered across the Buccaneer Archipelago. Characterized by unique rock formations, vibrant colors, and lush tropical growth, these islands offer a picturesque landscape.

Some of the most notable islands in the area include the Lacepede Islands, a group of four islands off the Kimberley coast. These islands serve as an important breeding area for seabirds and are a popular spot for birdwatching enthusiasts. Comprising small, low sandspits formed from coarse sand and coral fragments with scattered low vegetation, the Lacepede Islands provide a unique habitat for wildlife.

The Kimberley region is renowned for its pristine white-sand beaches, exemplified by locations like Cape Leveque. Additionally, the area boasts some of Australia's most spectacular rock art galleries along rivers and bays. With its sparsely populated landscape and a wealth of rare and remote attractions, the Kimberley offers an ideal destination for travelers seeking an unforgettable adventure in a remote and rugged environment.
