The Isaac Region in Queensland is home to several stunning national parks that offer unique experiences for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Some of the notable parks in the region include Cape Palmerston National Park, Homevale National Park, Mazeppa National Park, and Newry Islands National Park.
Cape Palmerston National Park, located 115km southeast of Mackay, is accessible only by 4WD and features mountain views, open woodlands, and unique fossils. Known for its spectacular cliffs and diverse flora and fauna, the park offers a picturesque setting for visitors. Homevale National Park, situated 50km north of Nebo, is recommended for 4WD access and boasts unique fossils, remnant Brigalow and Gidgee scrub, and eucalypt woodland set on black soil plains.
Mazeppa National Park, just 75km northwest of Clermont, is a haven for wildlife and nature enthusiasts, conserving 4,130 hectares of Gidgee scrub interspersed with Brigalow scrub and open woodlands. The park provides a refuge for a variety of wildlife, including finches, the vulnerable squatter pigeon, and koalas. Newry Islands National Park, part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, is known for its pearl-colored beaches, exposed rocky headlands, open woodlands, and dense rainforests, surrounded by the sparkling turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef. The park offers picnic areas, public toilets, and camping facilities on Newry, Outer Newry, and Rabbit islands.
In addition to these parks, the Isaac Region is also home to the Bicentennial National Trail, stretching from Connors Range to the coast of St. Lawrence. This historic trail is perfect for those who love hiking alongside nature and offers opportunities to discover Wolfgang Peak, Eastern Peak, Lord's Table Mountain, and Gemini Mountains.
