The Latrobe Region in Tasmania is home to two stunning national parks that showcase the natural beauty of the area. Narawntapu National Park is a popular destination for camping, fishing, boating, swimming, bushwalking, and horse riding (permit required). Located a 30-minute drive from Latrobe, the park is known for its long stretches of sheltered inlets, wetlands, sand dunes, and lagoons. It is an excellent place to spot pademelons, kangaroos, and wallabies in their natural environment. Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is just an hour's drive away from Latrobe and is renowned for its diverse and breathtaking landscapes.
The park features moss-covered ancient rainforests, deep river gorges, snow-covered mountain peaks, wild alpine moorlands, and glacial lakes. It is home to an abundance of wildlife, including Tasmanian devils, quolls, platypus, echidna, wombats, and black currawongs. The park offers a world-class system of walking tracks, ranging from short easy strolls to the iconic 5-6 day Overland Track, which stretches 80 km from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair.
