Meander Valley, located in Northern Tasmania, is home to several stunning national parks that showcase the region's natural beauty and diverse landscapes. One of the highlights in the area is the Meander Falls, a 10km return walk that takes you through a beautiful wet forest to a breathtaking 130-meter high waterfall. The walk is moderately challenging, with an elevation gain of over 500 meters, and takes around 5-6 hours to complete. The Meander Falls are a spectacular sight, as they plunge steeply in two separate tiers through a cleft in the Great Western Tiers. The track to the falls initially follows the lovely Meander River and takes around 3 hours to complete. The terrain is rocky, with some steep and muddy sections, and snow and ice can be experienced during the winter months.
Apart from the Meander Falls, there are several other parks and reserves in the Meander Valley area, such as Blackstone Park, Bracknell River Reserve, Devil's Gullet, Hadspen River Reserve, Kimberley Warm Springs, Larmairremener tabelti, Liffey Falls Reserve, and Liffey River Reserve. These parks offer a variety of experiences, from leisurely strolls to more challenging hikes, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the region's natural beauty. Meander is around a 50-minute drive from either Launceston or Devonport on National Highway 1. To reach the Meander Falls, take the C167 road from Deloraine to Meander, then follow signs to Meander Forest Reserve. Remember to follow safe walking guidelines and be prepared for changing weather conditions, as snow and ice can be experienced during the winter months.
