Moreton Bay Marine Park is a protected area covering 3,400 km² and stretching 125 km from Caloundra to the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Established in 1993, the park aims to protect ecologically significant habitats in Moreton Bay while allowing for a range of recreational and commercial activities to conserve the diverse ecological system.
The marine park includes various marine and coastal environments like rocky shores, wetlands, coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows, and sandy beaches. These habitats support migratory wading birds, humpback whales, marine turtles, dolphins, dugong, shorebirds, grey nurse sharks, and over 1,190 fish species. Moreton Bay Marine Park provides seasonal resources for wildlife and recreational opportunities for visitors.
There are four zones in the park, including the Marine national park zone (green) offering the highest level of protection. It is a unique location where tropical and temperate marine species coexist. Visitors to the Moreton Bay region can engage in activities like whale watching, snorkeling, and exploring the diverse landscapes of the park.
