The Barcaldine Region in Queensland is home to a few railway museums that showcase the history and heritage of the area. The Australian Workers Heritage Centre in Barcaldine, spread across over two hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens, is dedicated to honoring all workers, past, present, and future, preserving an important part of Australian heritage and culture.
The Barcaldine and District Historical Museum, housed in the historic old National Bank Building, showcases the history and heritage of the Barcaldine District. Featuring displays containing artifacts from the pioneering days of the bush, including household items, machinery, photographs, and paintings, the museum also offers miniature train rides on the last Sunday of the month during winter months.
The Aramac Tramway Museum, a heritage-listed former tramway station in Aramac within the Barcaldine Region, features a goods shed, six other buildings, and relics of the tramway. There has been a proposal to reinstate a section of track to run the railmotor, with Queensland Rail donating sleepers and rails for a kilometer of track. These railway museums provide visitors with a chance to explore the rich history and heritage of the area, offering a unique and educational experience for travelers.
