The Quilpie Shire Railway Museum, situated in Quilpie, Queensland, serves as a tribute to the area's extensive railway legacy, given its location as the terminus of the Western railway line. The museum's building, previously the Cheepie railway station located 70 km east of Quilpie, was relocated and restored in the Queensland Rail Heritage, with construction on the railway line commencing in 1911 and reaching Quilpie in 1917.
Among the museum's key features are memorabilia and photographs illustrating the region's railway history, anecdotes from elderly residents who recall riding the "Flying Flea" train to sporting events, and a model representing the "End of the Line" or the origin of the railway line. In addition to the Quilpie Shire Railway Museum, the region offers various attractions such as St Finbarr's Church showcasing a remarkable lectern and font, the old Powerhouse Museum, the Mini Museum at the Airport dedicated to the old Wool Scour, a free opal fossicking area for visitors to search for opals, and the Bulloo River Walk, ideal for birdwatching and fishing, with informative signs along the banks.
Situated adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre on Brolga Street, Quilpie QLD 4480, visitors can explore the museum and delve into the rich railway heritage of the region.
