The Campaspe Region in Victoria offers a unique and picturesque setting for river cruises. One of the most highly anticipated river cruise experiences in the area is the PS Australian Star, Australia's first five-star river cruise. Operating from the historic Port of Echuca, the PS Australian Star provides luxury cruises along the Murray River for up to 38 guests. The Campaspe Shire Council has developed the Cruising in Campaspe Map, which offers road tripping ideas for motoring enthusiasts. Some of the highlights of a river cruise in the Campaspe Region include cruising along the flat plains, through the hills, or around the bends of the rivers, visiting the historic Port of Echuca, which is a major attraction in the region, stopping at first-class eateries and wineries along the way, and exploring riverside communities during journeys of three, four, and seven night stays.
The PS Australian Star features up to 19 ensuite cabins, a fine dining restaurant and function space, a guest lounge, and a sun deck with a spa and bar. The vessel is built locally in Mildura and offers a modern, energy-efficient, hybrid diesel and steam propulsion system, featuring a refurbished 1907 wood-fired steam engine. With the support of the Victorian Government's $2.25 million investment from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund, the Campaspe Region is well on its way to becoming a premier river cruise destination in Australia.
