The Clarence Valley in New South Wales is home to two notable sculpture galleries that showcase a variety of artistic styles and mediums. Cowper Art Gallery is located in the picturesque village of Cowper, nestled by the banks of the Clarence River halfway between Grafton and Maclean. Housed in a beautifully restored old timber church, the gallery features changing exhibitions, with each exhibition opened with an event and artist talks often held during exhibitions. The gallery also offers workshops in various disciplines, such as printmaking, painting, textiles, dyeing, basket making, weaving, bookmaking, and photography, taught by gallery owner Kerrie Bowles and visiting tutors. Fay Boyd's Fine Art School, owned and operated by Cowper Art Gallery and Studio, provides additional opportunities for artistic learning.
Grafton Regional Gallery is located in Grafton at 158 Fitzroy Street and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with some public holiday variations. The gallery offers various events and programs throughout the year to enhance visitors' artistic skills. The Grafton Regional Gallery Artist in Residence Program is open to professional artists and groups, providing an opportunity for artists to develop their work in a supportive environment. The gallery also offers creative workshops during school holidays and throughout the year, with the support of the Friends of Grafton Gallery and the major sponsor, JADA. Both galleries provide unique experiences for art enthusiasts and aspiring artists alike, allowing them to immerse themselves in the local art scene and learn new skills in a nurturing environment.
