Waubra wineries

Waubra, a picturesque area just twenty minutes outside of Ballarat in Victoria, is home to some charming wineries. One such gem is the Wayward Winery, nestled on the side of the dormant volcano 'Quoin Hill.' This idyllic location offers stunning sunsets over the Pyrenees Ranges and provides perfect conditions for growing a variety of grapes, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Shiraz.

The winery features a recently renovated sixty-five-seat restaurant where local produce, including items grown on-site, is showcased. The chefs at Wayward Winery emphasize cooking with fire, using an Argentinian grill and a large wood-fired pizza oven to craft seasonal menus that reflect the available produce. The winery is also in the process of developing eco-friendly accommodation, such as tiny homes, and plans to offer the 1920s homestead for visitors to rest and recharge.

Another notable winery in Waubra is the Quoin Hill Vineyard, which is situated within serene rolling hills, making it the highest and southernmost vineyard in the region. The winery has a rich history, and its tasting rooms are housed in a building with a character that has been carefully preserved through the use of recycled timbers and Australian hardwood. Quoin Hill Vineyard offers wine tastings and is in the process of developing various facilities, including meeting/conference facilities, wedding facilities, and lodging/bed and breakfast options. The vineyard has also received several awards for its wines, adding to its appeal as a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts.

These wineries not only provide a diverse range of quality wines but also offer a unique setting, delectable dining options, and the promise of a memorable retreat in the heart of Victoria's wine country.
