The Young area in New South Wales is part of the Hilltops wine region, known for its premium red wines produced from outstanding cool climate wine grapes. The region, located 130 kilometers northwest of Canberra, is characterized by its cool climate conditions, which allow for the production of elegant wine styles, particularly Chardonnay, Semillon, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The majority of the vineyards in the area are situated above 450 meters above sea level, contributing to the high quality of the produce. The region is also famous for its high-quality red cherries and hosts the National Cherry Festival, which has been running since 1949. Since the early 1990s, various wineries have invested in the area, and today there are more than a dozen wineries capitalizing on the Hilltops climate and soils to produce a variety of wine styles.
Some of the wineries in the Young area include Grove Estate, Lindsays Woodonga Hill, Moppity Vineyards, Freeman Vineyards, McWilliams Barwang, Chalkers Crossing Vineyard, and Lockwood Vineyard. Visitors to the region can enjoy wine tasting at these wineries and cellar doors, experiencing the vibrant and elegant wines produced in this young and exciting wine region.
