The Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in the Brighton region of Tasmania has been a popular attraction since its establishment in 1981. It offers visitors the chance to interact with a variety of native Australian animals as well as exotic species from overseas. The sanctuary was created with the aim of providing a home for abandoned and injured wild animals.
Among the unique animals that can be encountered at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary are Tasmanian devils, which are typically nocturnal and rarely seen in the wild but are more easily observed at the sanctuary. Spotted quolls, the next largest surviving carnivorous marsupial, are also a highlight at the sanctuary. Visitors can also learn about and observe seahorses, platypus, and echidnas during their visit.
Aside from offering an educational and engaging experience, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary operates a 24/7 wildlife rescue service to address conservation issues in Tasmania. As a social enterprise, the sanctuary utilizes the funds generated from visitor experiences to support their conservation initiatives.
