The Bundaberg region in Queensland, Australia, boasts fascinating shipwrecks that provide unique dive experiences. One notable wreck is the Ex-HMAS Tobruk, Australia's newest dive wreck located off the coast of Bundaberg. This former naval vessel was intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef and world-class dive site, now thriving with marine life like fish, turtles, and other creatures.
In addition to the Ex-HMAS Tobruk, divers can explore the MV Karma, a barge offering opportunities to investigate its massive hold, crane boom, bridge structure, cabins, and engine room. The Marloo, a steamer wreck near Fraser Island, is another intriguing site, having struck Sandy Cape Shoal and eventually beached near Waddy Point, with parts of the hull still visible depending on sand movements.
Bundaberg's coastal reefs are renowned for being among Australia's top tropical shore-dive locations, with popular spots like Barolin Rocks and Hoffman Rocks in the Woongarra Marine Park. Due to relatively low wet season rainfall in the Burnett River area, there are reduced pollutant and sediment discharges to nearby coastal coral reefs, ensuring cleaner and healthier diving conditions.
